If you have sensitive skin, what your bedding is made from matters, because you spend hours every night lying on it. Our 100% bamboo bedding is a soft, smooth fabric that many people with sensitive skin or eczema-prone skin find more comfortable to sleep on. It's moisture-wicking, so it draws moisture away from your skin as you sleep, and its smooth surface means less friction against your skin and hair. It's also why our bamboo pillowcases are a popular choice if you often wake up with frizzy, tangled hair. Here's what to know about our 100% bamboo bedding if your skin is easily irritated.
Why many people with sensitive skin choose bamboo bedding
Soft and smooth against your skin: Our 100% bamboo fabric has a 350 thread count and a silky-soft feel – somewhere between the freshness of cotton and the softness of silk. Because the surface is so smooth, there's less rubbing against your skin as you move during the night, which is why many people with sensitive or eczema-prone skin find it more comfortable than rougher fabrics.
Moisture-wicking: Our bamboo is absorbent and moisture-wicking, which means it draws moisture away from your skin rather than leaving you lying on damp sheets. It also helps regulate your body temperature whilst you sleep. If you tend to get hot and clammy at night, our guide to 100% bamboo vs 100% cotton bedding for hot sleepers explains more.
Odour-resistant: Our bamboo fabric is odour-resistant, which helps keep your bedding feeling fresh between washes.
Please note that bedding isn't a treatment for any skin condition. If you have eczema or another skin condition, always follow the advice of your GP or pharmacist – but when it comes to choosing a soft, comfortable fabric to sleep on, bamboo is a popular choice.
Bamboo pillowcases and frizzy hair
If you often wake up with frizzy, tangled or flattened hair, your pillowcase could be part of the reason. Rougher fabrics create friction as you turn your head during the night, which can rough up the hair. Our 100% bamboo pillowcases have a smooth surface, which means less friction, so many people find they wake up with less frizz and fewer tangles.
The same smooth surface means less tugging against the skin on your face, too. Every bamboo complete bed set includes two matching pillowcases, and you can also buy our bamboo pillowcases on their own if you'd like to try bamboo for your hair first, or simply want a spare pair.
Washing bamboo bedding when you have sensitive skin
Wash our bamboo bedding with a non-biological detergent only, at any temperature up to 40°C. A cold, 20°C, 30°C or 40°C wash all work – but avoid hot washes above 40°C. Never use a biological detergent on bamboo, because the enzymes in it break down the bamboo fibres and damage the fabric. Non-bio detergent is also often recommended for people with sensitive skin, so it suits both your bedding and your skin. Line dry where possible, or tumble dry on a low heat. Frequently asked questions
Is bamboo bedding good for sensitive skin?
Our 100% bamboo bedding is a soft, smooth, moisture-wicking fabric that many people with sensitive skin find more comfortable to sleep on. It isn't a treatment for any skin condition, but it's a popular choice for people whose skin is easily irritated.
Is bamboo bedding suitable for people with eczema?
Many people with eczema-prone skin find our bamboo bedding more comfortable because it's so soft and smooth. It won't treat eczema, so please follow your GP's or pharmacist's advice for your skin.
Do bamboo pillowcases help with frizzy hair?
Yes. The smooth surface of our bamboo pillowcases means less friction as you move in your sleep, so many people find they wake up with less frizz and fewer tangles.
What detergent should I use?
Always use a non-biological detergent and wash at any temperature up to 40°C. Never use a biological detergent, because its enzymes break down the bamboo fibres and damage the fabric. Non-bio is also often recommended for people with sensitive skin.
Can I just buy bamboo pillowcases?
Yes. Our bamboo pillowcases are sold on their own in White, Grey, Cream and Black, as well as being included in every bamboo complete bed set.
